Application process
If you want to work in the UK, you will have to apply to join the NMC register.
If you application meets our minimum standards, you will then have to complete an overseas nursing programme.
These courses are approved and regulated by the NMC, however, they are funded and commissioned locally by the Strategic Health Authorities.
We strongly recommend that you investigate what NMC approved courses are available and secure your place before travelling to the UK.
You will not be able to work as a nurse without having completed the programme, even if your application to join the NMC register is successful.
If you wish to register your nursing qualification with the NMC please complete the request form below and return it via email or post. Please note that should you decide to apply for registration you will be required to pass the specified International English Language Test (IELTS) before we can issue you with an application pack.

Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP)
Since September 2005, the only route to registration with the NMC has been through the Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP).

All applicants who apply for nurse registration and who meet NMC minimum requirements will be required to undertake all or part of the ONP. The ONP sets out common entry standards, a compulsory 20-day period of protected learning for all nurses trained outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and, where appropriate, a period of supervised practice.
